8th July 2015

GreenLine, the Environmental Forum of the Don Bosco Development Society, as part of its ‘Green Schools Campaign,’ held their first orientation programme of the year yesterday, for teachers of the participating schools. The event was held at the GreenLine Office in Don Bosco, Matunga. This is the sixth edition of the campaign that aims at creating ‘greener people’ who in turn will create a ‘greener world.’ The teachers from Don Bosco High School, Matunga who attended the same were Ms. Barkha Shah, Ms. Neelam Yadav and Ms. Alareen Fernandes. The Nature Club of Don Bosco High School, Matunga will be directly involved in taking forward the activities on the theme ‘Fauna Watch’ during this academic year.
A talk by Mr. Laxmikant Deshpande on ‘Environment education and sustainable development,’ followed by a session on ‘Conserving Mumbai’s biodiversity - The role of the Urban Youth,’ brought the theme for the year into focus. Rev. Fr. Savio Silveira gave the theme of ‘Fauna Watch’ for the year to the 500 schools participating in the Green School Campaign this year.

Rev. Fr. Savio quoted Mother Teresa when he reminded the teachers that “The world today does not listen to preachers but it listens to witnesses,” and urged the teachers along with their students to be proactive in their campaign of spreading awareness about, as well as helping protect urban fauna.
